On March 31, 2003, the Society entered into an Agreement with the Environment Canada (Federal) for financial support for incentives. At the time the Department was looking to support organizations who were “actively involved in environmental and sustainable development projects and initiatives that would result in tangible, measurable environmental benefits.” SCRAP-IT was selected for its ability to quantify the reduction of vehicle emissions and because it already had other program partners who were contributing financially to the project.
The Agreement was put in place to support SCRAP-IT’s goal as to scrap between 400 and 600 older, high polluting in-use vehicles per year, through the offer of incentives.
