In April 2008, the Society received a grant of $15 million from the Government of British Columbia to significantly expand the program and offer new incentives to remove high polluting, high carbon-emitting vehicles from the on-road fleet. This expanded program was formally announced by then Premier Gordon Campbell and launched on June 4, 2008. Prior to the grant, the Society operated in donated office space within the New Car Dealers Association of BC offices processing approximately 600 applications in a year.
